The Mara collection

Pearls and Porcelain
Our latest designs The Mara collection is a limited edition collection inspired by the history of the VOC: the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie – known to the English speaking world as the Dutch East India Company. The V.O.C. is a fascinating part of 17th century history, when the V.O.C. vessels commenced trading with the exotic Far East.

One of the most unique consequences of the involvement of the V.O.C. with the Far East was the direct import of beautiful hand-painted blue and white Chinese porcelain, bringing inspiration to Dutch artisans. The Dutch city of Delft became the center of the new ceramic production, and the origin of the Delftware / Delft blue porcelain.

In the unique and limited edition ‘Mara’ designs, we combine beautiful genuine freshwater baroque pearls with the two different hand-painted ceramics: the classic blue and white Chinese porcelain beads and the traditional Dutch details. This unique design can be worn as a necklace or wrapped around the wrist as a bracelet. To match your unique wraps we have designed earrings composed of the same beautiful pearls, porcelain and Sterling silver.

Each item is one-of-a-kind, custom-made in limited edition. The items may therefore vary slightly from what is shown in the photo. The Proud Pearls logo charm is coupled with the beautiful Infinite Knot. This is an old Tibetan symbol: a line without a beginning or end that radiates both calm and movement. It represents the idea that everything in this world is interconnected. This represents Proud Pearls’ concept of all cultures coming together as an inspirational way of life.
